Peruvian Olive Oil Brand Tiqsi Enters U.S. Premium Market

Peruvian olive oil is making a significant stride into the U.S. market, with Tacna-based company Agroindustrias González launching its own brand, Tiqsi, in the United States. This marks the first time a Peruvian exporter has entered the U.S. with its proprietary olive oil label, firmly establishing Perú’s presence in the gourmet segment.

The brand’s debut shipment—a pallet of the “Criolla” variety—arrived in New York mid-September, distributed via a platform specializing in premium oils. This move builds on the company’s prior success; in 2020, they achieved a similar entry into the Japanese market under their own brand. Further shipments of this distinctive Peruvian olive oil are anticipated throughout the remainder of 2025.

Agroindustrias González is a vertically integrated producer, overseeing the entire process from cultivating the olives to crafting the final oil. This commitment to quality is crucial as they aim to compete in the high-end, premium segment of the U.S. market.

Tacna: The Heart of Peruvian Olive Oil Production

The success of Peruvian olive oil is inextricably linked to the country’s southern regions, particularly Tacna. This region is the undisputed leader in Perú’s olive production, contributing over 70% of the national total, significantly surpassing other regions like Arequipa and Ica. The climate and soil of Tacna are ideal for cultivating the high-quality olives essential for premium olive oil.

As of May 2025, Peruvian olives—the primary input for Peruvian olive oil—had reached 21 countries worldwide, highlighting the growing international recognition of this agricultural product. While Peruvian olive oil is now targeting the premium U.S. market, its raw material already has strong footing in international markets, with key destinations including Brazil, the U.S., Chile, Canada, Spain, and Japan. The introduction of the Tiqsi brand signals a new phase: moving from raw commodity export to premium, branded consumer goods, cementing Perú as a source of fine olive oil.
